Aurora Conservatories - conservatory design and build to your specification.

THE ENVIROMENTAL BENEFITS OF AURORA CONSERVATORIES

Aurora is a forward looking company which has developed its products in response to the changing attitudes of the public while remaining true to its core beliefs and traditional manufacturing methods.

All our conservatories are produced using hardwood, an environmentally friendly biodegradable product from managed, sustainable forests, but without the cheapness and lack of quality of pine or other softwoods and the heavy environmental cost of PVCu.

Aurora Conservatories is an environmentally orientated company and attempts to ensure it is at the forefront of the green manufacturing initiative. Waste wood of good quality and size is donated to a local school and smaller waste is stockpiled for use in the winter when it is used to heat the factory reducing our energy consumption. We are currently researching the feasibility of turning our sawdust waste into fuel pellets for use in wood burning boilers or Agas.

The Idigbo hardwood used in our conservatories is sourced only from those country’s and forests which are members of the Certified Verified Progress scheme (CVP) Which is overseen by the WWF, Tropical Forest Trust and SGS the aim of this scheme is to achieve Forest Stewardship Council Certification the main points of the scheme are;-

  • All timber is traceable from source to final delivery.
  • All timber is from legally harvested forests.
  • All timber is from producers that are actively improving forest management
  • All timber is from producers who are actively attempting to achieve credible certification.

After manufacture all our conservatories are either stained or painted using Teknos microporous paint which is water based and solvent free. No damaging solvents of any kind are used in the painting process.

Modern double glazing technology is employed in our conservatories to reduce heat loss and improve thermal efficiency which has a two fold benefit of minimising carbon emissions from power generation and reducing the heating costs of the end user. An energy surcharge is paid for each double glazed unit which is used to balance the environmental impact of its production.

All our Glazed units use Pilkington K glass which is designed to keep heat in during winter and out during summer, and are filled with naturally occurring Argon gas this combination of materials allows us to install a unit which has a thermal efficiency rating of 1.1kwk.

We are located in the village of Naburn, near York in the Old station Yard, which as its name implies is an old railway shunting yard. We have re used an existing brown field site and its buildings rather than building on a pristine Greenfield site. Whilst we still produce conservatories using traditional methods in older buildings we have updated our product and infrastructure as technology moves on, an example of which is the state of the art dust extraction system installed to meet all current and projected environmental standards. Our factory is in the process of being fitted with “ecolights” a new product which replaces standard fluorescent tubes.
